In memory of Paul Lowe – fundraising challenge ride in Bosnia

In October 2024, my friend, mentor, and colleague, Dr. Paul Lowe, was killed in Los Angeles.
I will be riding 360 km by bicycle through Bosnia in September to raise money in his name.
Paul was an award-winning photojournalist, educator, and coach who helped shape a global community of visual storytellers. From Sarajevo to Kigali, from Gaza to Grozny, Paul bore witness to history, and taught others to do the same with courage and care.
As an educator at the University of the Arts in London, Paul invited me to lecture for his classes. He was my colleague at the VII Foundation, and he helped me discover Sarajevo, taking me on bike rides and out to local meals.
Paul believed in journalism as a force for justice and supported young voices from underrepresented regions. He was also a dedicated endurance athlete who found healing in movement and community.
The Paul Lowe Challenge is a global initiative that aims to transform grief into purpose by mobilizing our networks
and community to raise funds for journalism scholarships in Paul’s name. It brings together journalism, education, and sport — all central pillars to Paul’s life — to raise awareness about the vital role of journalism in society, the urgent need to address mental health issues and journalists’ well-being and to get outside and be active however we are able.
Please give your support to my ride through Bosnia to raise money in Paul’s memory.
